    Ikon goes Rhythm Ta, Mate!

When Gdragon held a concert here in Sydney, I didn’t go and i I regretted it so much. It felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity that I missed that won’t never come back, ever! So I committed to myself that if there is any YG artist then I should go out of my way and purchase a ticket no matter what!

So that night of 25th Oct 2018, IKON had their very first concert here at land down under. Their first stop, Sydney and 2 days after would be Melbourne.

There’s no second thought of whether to watch this or not. Also, no need to worry if anyone would be joining me. Right there and then, I knew this would be a solo flight and having no company has never been an issue for me! I enjoy my own company! And so, I bought the concert ticket straight away in a snap. Unfortunately, there was no more reserved seat available so no choice, I opted to click the rock zone (standing area) which is second front section of the stage.

    Day of the concert:

I got out of the office earlier than usual, would you believe that? Grabbed a quick bite to sustain me for the night especially I knew that would require extra energy to keep me standing tall and proud throughout the entire performance. I didn’t want my knees to become jelly and gave up in the midst of the concert.

Going there was an easy breeze. From work, took the train, passed Harbour Bridge, walked 5 mins, took some nice photos as remembrance and eventually joined the queue.

It was not a long wait, we entered the venue smoothly. It was a very organized crowd and there was no drama whatsover.

And yes, I noticed that 80% of the audience are mostly young but you can see mature adults like me coming straight from work who were trying to dress at least casual for the event. Most are trying hard to pretend that they didnt work for the day.

They opened their first Australian concert with a bang! With all 7 members full of energy, they exudes overwhelming strength and masculinity as they began with their song, “Bling Bling” . They are on a different level as they filled the entire stage with Big Bang charisma.

I tried not to take too much videos but I could not help it. Everytime, they began a new song, all phones from everywhere just instantly went up! It’s automatic and infectious!!

Apologies my videos are not of high quality as my hands are shaking. I tried to stop my every single bone from dancing to no avail!

Indeed, my boys went Rhythm Ta!

    Applers, Daragon is “still” alive

    02 September 2017

So I woke up lazily this morning like how I normally wake up every Saturday morning. Reluctantly opened my eyes, grabbed my phone and scrolled through some random posts in my instagram. For a second, I thought I was still in the La la land dreaming of some Daragon moments in a concert. And it clicked! It occurred to me that last night was GD’s concert in Manila, the Act III MOTTE in Manila, the one that I missed seeing here in Sydney last August.

Oh well, to cut the introduction short, I spent almost half my day just simply checking all media accounts for any updates, posts, video clips, photos, comments from fans and haters alike. And the Daragon fans didn’t fail me! Floodgates were opened for all those who are waiting like me. All Applers who attended the concert are generous enough to share their experiences through photos and videos.. ..blurred, mostly shaky quality and with the fans’ screaming overpowering the performance. LOL. Who can blame them?

Anyway,  here are my takeaways from this unforgettable Saturday as a Kpop fan:

    1. As a self-confessed both Daragon and Darahae fan, the feeling that I’ve got today is the same excitement that I felt when I read the news about Sandara and Donghae both acknowledging their one-decade friendship. They also posted the same photo on their instagram account evidencing their longtime “relationship”.

I love the fact that both GD and Dara posted pictures in their instagram accounts right after the concert….the day after the concert. Especially those from GD. When I strolled down his instagram account, he doesn’t normally post lots of photos from his concert but this time, he posted not just 1 but 6 photos from his Manila concert, 3 of which are with “Noona” on them.

I’m yet to confirm if it’s a fact or not. But one netizen observed that Sandara is the first girl that has ever been featured on GD’s public instagram account.

    1. It’s not everyday that you see GD doing a live video for his fans but this time he did it for his Filipino fans. With Sandara on his live video, he seemed so giddy and awkward at the same time. He also seemed not familiar with how to do a live video or use his phone because at the end, it’s actually Sandara who closed the chat, demonstrating to GD how to do it (for next time? Hopefully)

    1. GD’s OOTD during his performance with Sandara was so sleek and classy. Even his hairstyle was on point and not usual weird one! He really had this handsome aura and gentlemanly presence on stage who looked like a bachelor attending a formal dinner date with his girlfriend (Ehem!)

Some netizens are deliberately comparing this performance with GD’s duet with CL in his Seoul’s concert that radiates a sexy vibe. They were claiming.. “Hey, GD knelt there too!”

Honestly speaking, yes … CL is sexy but I don’t find GD sexy at all in his outfit then!! I don’t even know what’s wrong with his hairstyle and what’s with that fishnet during that performance with CL. But hey, it’s GD! Even if he’s wearing a rice sack, he’s still the fashion icon, still that same pretty boy in our eyes.

Anyway, back to Daragon’s performance on stage. Their awkwardness on stage and giddy moments made this number much even sweeter and cute at the same time. Both could not help but felt “kilig” towards each other and that feeling transcended out from the stage to their fans watching inside the venue and even those who relied on short video clips like me.

    1. “Ginalingan! May nanalo na. Uwian na! Uwi na ko. “

Whatever Sandara meant when she said this, all I can say is I am amazed that Sandara knows this Filipino expression. She is indeed a Filipina at heart.  It’s normal when you heard a kababayan said this but not from a foreigner! ( Of course, I meant the English version of this.)

It’s an exclusive Filipino expression but Sandara naturally expressed it with so much ease like a true-blooded local.

    1. What’s with the kneeling on that instgram photo? I don’t understand, GD!!

The palm tree is self-explanatory. The “just seating” photo is normal but the kneeling in front of Sandara offering a “daisy” like flower.. for that particular photo, I could not find any explanation for it.

Should the fans read between the lines? Is this still a fan service?? But he’s GD!? He is such a huge artist who does not need a loveteam. He can sell concert tickets on his own so there’s no need for that!

    So why?

    1. What’s with the stomping on the floor during the “I miss you” number? Pointing at the spot where Sandara exited? Again, are they discreetly informing the public that they are an item? And their term of endearment is “Baby”? Hello?!

    1. Last time I checked, Sandara was  “just” a guest on that concert. But for a guest to be present on stage even at the Encore? Hmm.. well, why not if she is someone special to your heart?!  What better way to end the concert but be with someone who you want to be for the rest of your live until the end.    Again my delusional heart! Forgive me.
    2. There are many scenes from this concert that remind me of Jadine moments during their unforgettable concert ‘ever’, also in Araneta.
    • singing from opposite ends of the stage and meeting at the center.  They’re really good in maintaining the momentum for the audience who kept on screaming on the top of their voices, pushing anyone sitting next to them.
    • when GD knelt down. …I thought he was planning to do a confession not just for Sandara but to all Applers, as well. “Yes, we are together”, something like that. Definitely not a proposal, that’s too much. They should not kill Daragons instantly. Just kill us softly with kilig. So confession first so they can be sweet now in public and we’ll get used to it and next should be their proposal. That’s the plan. Not proposal right there and then during the concert. Some Daragon fans think too much. Let us be realistic. Any plans for any engagement or wedding should happen after the enlistment…

    1. In that concert, they’ve been vocal about each other even though they are fully aware this will result “again” to speculations that they’re together, or they’re dating. They will be all over the entertainment news once again if they’re not careful.         But in Manila concert, Sandara telling GD that she misses him while GD praising Sandara saying she is “so” pretty”! We’ve got so much feels!

    1. Couple outfits are so obvious!  The red matching attire during the “Hello” number and their “peaceminusone” fashion for the “Crooked” performance, who can match that??

    1. It seems that the backup dancers are members of the daragon fandom, as well. They fully support us and they are our representatives on the stage.. I hope they will continue to push both GD and Dara to be more open, more showy, more expressive, no bars! More confetti to throw!

    1. When? When? When? The million dollar question that no one knows what’s the answer and when it will be answered.

For the time being, let us just be contented with the photos and clips from the fans who are sharing the same interest, that is Daragon “Appler” not-so- young anymore.

    1) My girl
    2) Boys Over Flowers
also watch the Taiwanese version: Meteor Garden, Japanese version: Hanayori Dango and even the manga
    3)  Full House
also watch the Thai version and Philippine version with the same title
    4)  Sassy Girl Chun-hyang
    5) Goblin
    6) Love Story in Harvard
    7) Wonderful Life
Please note the the above do not include those drama series with plot of women disguising as men. There’s a separate post for that 🙂

    7 Amazing Duo’s!

    1. Hamish and Andy

No one can question the wit and charm that these two Australian blokes are bringing on the table.

Here are the excerpts of their gap year episode which they shot in Asia way back in 2013. These clips in particular were taken during those days when they experienced Philippines:

    2) GD and Taeyang

Walking down memory lane, GD and Taeyang spent their childhood and teenage years training under the wings of YG Entertainment, one of the huge names in Korean music! Now, both of them are 2/5 of the Bigbang boy group, who introduced hiphop Kpop to the world with their own style of music and fashion. Interestingly, they are also successful as individual performers who have received numerous rewards and accolades in their own rights attributing to their own talents and unique personalities.

With the combined energies of these two huge characters, we should always expect an astounding performance on stage with them giving their all as if there is no tomorrow!

    Live performance:

    3) Jung Eun-ji and Seo In-guk for “All for You” from “Replay 1997” (Korea)

This song performance goes straight to the heart! Even before I understand the lyrics, I could already understand the emotions of the song!

    4) Paul Zerdin and his partner

    This is real talent!

Bonus: I’m a huge fan of ventriloquism so I searched for other memorable acts whether from talent shows. Here are few of them:

    5) Mayward and Aldub

First met at Pinoy Big Brother house, Maymay, a witty teen Pinay and Edward, charming cheerful half German half Filo teenage boy formed a friendship that turned into a partnership in the showbiz world. Now, dubbed as “Mayward”, Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber have become household names bringing laughter and “kilig” to their growing fandom.

    • ALDUB

On the other hand, Aldub loveteam is a product not by force but by fate, hence being tagged as the “phenomenal” loveteam of the year. The first loveteam that I’ve known who has its own wikipidea page.

Please check out the below link to see how the variety show, Eat Bulaga found a gem with this tandem resulting to soaring ratings and outpour of endorsements, huge followings, daily long queues and domino effect of fame and recognition across all their artists and staff.

GMA, the TV network itself has reported significant increase on their net revenue during that time frame.

    Here is Aldub’s first meeting:

I’m sad that this channel stopped uploading English subtitled clips of Aldub.  Here are the first 9 episodes of the series:

Here is their “Mansion” episode (no subtitle):

“Tamang Panahon” (Right Timing) episode (no subtitle):

    6) Gao and Liu

From what I am aware of, the Chinese real life couple joined Asia’s Got talent and British Got Talent:

    7) Kathniel

Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, or more commonly known as “Kathniel” used to be introduced as teen king and queen of Philippine television. Now, reaching their 20’s, they move to the “King and Queen of Hearts” title.

Excerpts from their tv series “Pangako sa Yo” (My Promise to You):

From the tv series “Got to Believe in Magic” of the younger Kathniel:

Confessions of a Silent KPOP fan

    ….in 3..2..1…

    credits to the owner

    1. I used to not like Sandara Park…..

grabbed from google: credits to the owner

….but I didnt hate her neither. I was just not totally into her. I cringed when she threw random punchlines and most of times, I didn’t get her crazy antics. But that was before….

Now I realize she is not the “Pambansang Krung Krung” for no reason at all. She indeed belongs to this 4-dimensional character category with weirdness that is beyond our understanding. A woman from another planet.

When 2ne1 debuted “Fire” in 2009, so did my admiration for her. From then till now, I have been aware and been following her projects, her commercials, her escapades, her tv shows….almost all of her tv appearances. From the I‘m-no-so-into her, I turned into what-is-she-doing-right-now fan.. it’s a 180 degree transformation!

Who can blame me? She turned into this incredible Kpop character who embodies the  admirable attributes of both worlds..as Korean, being 100% that she is and as a Filipina, being a former resident and household name in Manila. (Now, you can tell I’m a fan!)

    2) I’m familiar or I get used coming across famous Kpop terms or expressions…..

    credits to the owner

such as “bias” referring to your favorite celebrity or loveteam,  “shipper” or “ship” when you’re eyeing for two celebrities or idols to become a couple, “guiyomi” or ” aegyo” which is the act of trying to act cute, “sasaeng” which according to Wikipedia:

In South Korean culture, a sasaeng or sasaeng fan (Hangul: 사생팬) is an obsessive fan of a Korean pop idol, or other public figure, that has engaged in stalking or other behaviour that constitutes an invasion of privacy”

I’m used reading write-ups, captions, or subtitles with instead of the usual “hehe” which translates to laughing out loud (LOL), it’s replaced by “keke”.

And for mistakes, particularly for any TAKE 2 on any video, drama or performance, they use the term “NG” for behind the scenes fails.

    3) I became an automatic Korean drama fanatic….

    credits to the owner

Maybe this does not apply to all but this is definitely the case for me!

Or should I say… it’s the other way around for me! I was so engrossed watching Korean dramas during the hype of it back early 2000’s where everyone was captivated by the “hallyu” wave.

What is Hallyu?   Wikipedia says: “Hallyu” is a commonly used term meaning “Korean cultural wave”, was originated in mid-1999 by Beijing journalists who were surprised at the speed of the fast-growing popularity of Korean entertainment and culture.

So Kdrama influenced me and introduced me to Kpop! They’re on the same platform and breathing the same air. Do you know that some Kpop idols are also Kpop actor\actresses and vice-versa? Now’s that’s what we call multitasking and diversity of overflowing talents!!

    4)  It’s forbidden to lip synch…

Kpop fans are not that forgiving. They will eat you alive!  Even when you’re sweating blood, you ought to sing LIVE! Or you may have a background sound of your own voice but still…. you are expected to sing LIVE!

Go and have a search in youtube and you will see heaps of videos of live performances  being edited to highlight if that particular group or solo artist is simply lipsynching or not.  Or does he\she really possess that talent to sing or is everything just about looks?

Keyword is “MR REMOVED” and.. Voila! You will have a list of those videoes all over the web to vouch for your idol’s reputation by removing the music background leaving their live voices for public to scrutinise! (Whew!!)

    Here’s a sample:

and this one below from Crayon Pop,  which netizens are claiming to be a fail as for most lines, they were simply lip synching.  I’m not impressed.

    5)  Create illusions..or delusions that biased couples (ships) will end up together in real life…

And not just that,  you can still partner your favorite to multiple celebrities  and it’s ok.  It does not matter which one will prevail! As long as one shipping will come to pass.

Sometimes you end up forgetting your own personal love life! Not healthy? I know! I’m insanely sick! keke

    6) I always try to find the English translation of the Kpop song and wish my idol\idols will make an English version of the song.

But I guess if they do that, the songs will lose the magic and charm. The very reason why Kpop songs have this certain appeal to international fans is because they manage to transcend language barriers and different cultures and environments.  People simply rely on the music per se and the delivery and quality of the songs.  The music and lyrics go straight to the hearts and not through the brain since no automatic translation is required (as you don’t speak the language in the first place so how can you translate it!)

Anyway, I found one awesome Kpop song cover (not in English) but in guitar 🙂

Here is the original.. Taeyang with his “Song of the Year”!

    7) Travelling to Korea is in my bucket list (South Korea)

I believe this is also a given and is no longer a confession. I wonder if there is any Kpop lover who doesn’t want to experience Korea.

I’m dreaming to enter YG entertainment premises, to try their cafe and prove to myself that their meals are one for the books!

Watching music programs where these artists will be performing will be part of itinerary also, along with attending their fansign events. (Well,we are free to daydream.Dream on! )

Well, that ends the 7 confessions of a silent Kpop fan. Mind you, I’m not a hardcore fan but a very subtle one. I only have few favourites and not across all of those new idol groups sprouting like mushrooms every other day. My favourites range from old school….Bigbang, BI Rain, Super Junior, CNblue, TVXQ.. to the new generations….Blackpink, BTS, Exo, Winner, Ikon…

What a shame that few of my “biases” have decided to just disband their groups and move to “greener” pastures. Case in point: 2ne1 and SS01.

I watched this Kpop concert back in 2011 which was prior for me becoming a Kpop fan. So I got no idea who they are or how famous these performers are. So imagine my disappointment when I realized these are the huge names in Korea:

Line up: TVXQ (DBSK), SNSD (Girls’ Generation), SHINee, Sistar, Secret, Miss A, MBLAQ, Kara, CNBLUE, B2ST, 4Minute, 2AM

I should have savoured every minute of it… and recorded everything! All I have are these sloppy shots:

Here is one of the performances from that concert that I attended but I MISSED!!!! (AS IF I WERE NOT THERE!)
